Accolades for the Best Restaurants in San Jose del Cabo - F&F Takes Cabo

Don’t eat like a tourist!

San Jose del Cabo offers a rich variety of food in addition to being a top tourist destination in Mexico. However, it is easy for many to fall for restaurants that cater to tourists and serve inauthentic, uninspiring, and simply boring food. To get away from these traps I’m here to give you a list of restaurants that each serve different eating experiences. None of which are touristy and culture-less

Coolest Concept: Carbon Cabron

Walking into Carbon Cabron feels like entering a hidden made of wooden logs, creating a dark and moody atmosphere that sets the tone for your meal.

The open kitchen in the back of the restaurant furthered the intense atmosphere of the restaurant because every dish is cooked on the same wood fire or grill. While the menu highlights different cuts of steak, chicken, and pork, the most interesting dish was their fried onions. Not only were they fried with an aioli underneath the breading, but the breading was a striking pitch black from octopus ink.

If you’re after an innovative and highly curated dining experience, Carbon Cabron is the perfect place to go.

Best Dish: Lumbre

Lumbre, located in the heart of San Jose Del Cabo, boasts an expansive and balanced menu of seafood and land-based dishes. While most dishes stayed true to Lumbre’s Mexican roots, there was one dish that stood out and deviated from this pattern: Barbacoa.

Lumbre took a nod in an Asian direction with a bed of ramen-like noodles holding up barbacoa, mushrooms, and mini corn that was bathed in a broth reminiscent of the barbacoa flavors. On the side were small serving cups with sambal, red onion, cilantro, and lime. The dish is a stunning fusion of Mexican and Japanese influences that successfully bridged the intense flavors of both cultures, winning it the title of ‘best dish’.

Best Vibes: Acre

Acre, nestled within the Acre Resort, beyond just a meal, offered an experience. The peaceful and scenic walk to the restaurant was a small path with small stops that shared the restaurant and resort’s history. As I got closer to the restaurant the sound of lively conversation and music grew louder. The last step into the sea of tables out in the open and warm Cabo air sets up the fun vibe of the space.

While the food at Acre may not reach the high standards of Carbon Cabron or Lumbre, its lively and conversational atmosphere only made up for it. The menu still offers a high-quality farm-to-table variety of favors, and the upbeat ambiance makes Acre a great spot to enjoy the good company of family or friends.
