Reason for Being

In my 15 years of life, food has never just been “nutritious substances that people eat in order to maintain life and growth.”

Over centuries, multiple evolutions, and the development of taste buds, that simple definition of food as sustenance has greatly changed. Food has become a source of communication: telling the stories of every civilization through what proteins, grains, and seasonings are used; a tool used to forge new relationships; and a tool to build bridges between cultures.

Growing up in the culturally diverse food mecca of San Francisco, family dinners are composed of a range of foods that spans the globe. The options were endless - from Afghani chapendaz to Chinese xiao long bao to thin-crust Italian pizzas to American cheeseburgers. I have been fortunate to experience a wide variety of flavors and presentations of a certain ingredient.

Because of the close relationship I have with all these different foods, it has become an integral part of my life. I love showing my friends new cuisines and restaurants. I love cooking for others and letting them judge new recipes that I’ve tried out. I’m always the first to read the menu, pinpointing dishes that look interesting and new, and pushing my family and friends to order them with me. Writing about food and sharing my knowledge of it with others has become a passion that bridges both my love for eating and cooking and my great interest in writing and reading. I can’t wait to share every one of my favorite cuisines, restaurants, and dishes with you!

For me, the experience of eating is equal parts food, fun, and friendship. Each new bite, unexpected flavor, or unique concept offers a surprise that I love sharing with those close to me. I look forward to sharing these experiences with you. Let’s dig in!
